🏛️ About the Institute

NIT Srinagar offers an academic experience unlike any other. The campus is situated in the Kashmir Valley, surrounded by the Zabarwan Hills and the Dal Lake.

  • Strategic Importance: It is a premier technical institute in the Northern Region.
  • Campus Vibe: The environment is serene and cool year-round. The institute functions with a slightly different academic calendar in winter due to the harsh cold (long winter vacations).
  • Security: Being in a sensitive zone, the campus is highly secure with 24×7 surveillance and strict entry/exit protocols, ensuring complete safety for students from all over India.

✅ THE GAME CHANGER: Branch Change is Allowed

Policy Status for 2026:

Unlike NIT Jaipur, Rourkela, or Kurukshetra, NIT Srinagar STILL ALLOWS branch sliding.

  • The Notification: As per the August 2024 notice, students can apply for a branch change after the 2nd Semester.
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • CGPA ≥ 8.50 for Gen/OBC/EWS.
    • CGPA ≥ 8.00 for SC/ST/PwD.

💡 Guruvel Verdict

“NIT Srinagar is a high-reward option for students who can adapt to the location. The Branch Change (8.5 CGPA) policy is its biggest USP in 2026. If you are getting a low branch here vs. a private college, pick NIT Srinagar, work hard, and slide to a tech branch. The campus is safe, beautiful, and offers a unique life experience. Just be prepared for the cold winters and distance from home.”
