National Institute of Technology Delhi

Institute Profile & Admission Guide (2026-27)

Institute Type: National Institute of Technology (Institute of National Importance)

Established: 2010

Location: GT Karnal Road, Narela, New Delhi (51 Acres)

Status: Operating fully from its New Permanent Campus since 2022.

🏛️ About the Institute

NIT Delhi has shed its “temporary campus” struggle and is now a rising star in the NIT system. Located on NH-1 (GT Karnal Road), it leverages the massive location advantage of the National Capital Region (NCR).

  • The “Delhi” Advantage: Being in Delhi/NCR means easy access to internships in Gurgaon/Noida and a visiting faculty roster that includes professors from IIT Delhi and DTU.
  • Campus: Though smaller (51 acres) compared to older NITs, the new campus is modern, with state-of-the-art labs for VLSI and AI.
  • Connectivity:
    • Metro: 12 km from Jahangirpuri Metro Station (Yellow Line).
    • Air: 38 km from IGI Airport.

⚠️ CRITICAL WARNING: No Branch Change

Policy Update for 2026 Batch:

NIT Delhi has abolished the Branch Change option starting from the 2022-23 academic year.

  • What this means: If you join the Civil Engineering branch hoping to slide into CSE or AI after your first year, it will not happen. Your branch is final at the time of admission.

🎓 B.Tech Branches (Seat Matrix)

NIT Delhi has aggressively modernized its curriculum, launching three “Future-Tech” branches in the last two years. Admission is via JoSAA/CSAB.

New & High-Demand Branches:

  • Artificial Intelligence & Data Science: (Started 2023)
  • VLSI Design & Technology: (Started 2024) – One of the few NITs to offer this specialized course.
  • Aerospace Engineering: (Started 2024)

Standard Branches:

  • Computer Science & Engineering (CSE)
  • Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE)
  • Electrical Engineering (EE)
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering

📈 Placements (2025 Reports)

NIT Delhi is punching above its weight. Its average package is now higher than many older NITs (like Hamirpur or Silchar) due to the “Delhi Location Factor.”

  • Average Package (Overall): ₹16.81 LPA (Very High)
  • CSE Average Package: ₹18.27 LPA

💡 Guruvel Verdict

“NIT Delhi is the fastest-growing NIT right now. An overall average package of ₹16.8 LPA is phenomenal and beats even some new IITs. The campus is small, and there is No Branch Change, but if you prioritize Placements and City Exposure over a massive campus life, this is a top-tier choice.”
