Famous For: Being one of the oldest engineering colleges in India (Golden Jubilee celebrated in 2005) and its massive alumni network.

🏛️ About the Institute

NIT Raipur is located in the heart of Raipur city, the capital of Chhattisgarh. Unlike many NITs situated on the outskirts, this campus offers excellent connectivity and urban conveniences.

  • Connectivity:
    • Air: Swami Vivekananda Airport (Mana) is just 20 km away.
    • Rail: Raipur Railway Station is a major junction, only 5 km from the campus.
  • Vibe: The campus is known for its vibrant evening life and the annual “Eclectika” cultural fest which is a major attraction in Central India.

⚠️ CRITICAL UPDATE: No Branch Change

Policy Status for 2026:

NIT Raipur HAS WITHDRAWN the Branch Sliding process.

As per the resolution of the 52nd Senate, there is NO provision for branch change after the 2nd semester for batches admitted from 2025-26 onwards.

  • Implication: The branch you join is the branch you graduate with. Do not choose Bio-Technology or Mining expecting an upgrade to CSE or IT. Your counseling choice is final.

  • Clubs: “CodeUtsava” is the flagship coding event organized by the computer science clubs. The “Raaga” music club and “Abhinay” drama club are very popular.

  • Sports: The campus has a dedicated sports complex, but the focus is heavily on cricket and football leagues between branches.

“NIT Raipur is a fantastic choice for students who want a balance of City Life + NIT Brand. The location is its biggest asset. The placement for CSE/IT is on par with Tier-1 NITs. For Mining and Metallurgy, it is arguably one of the best colleges in India due to industry proximity. However, the ‘No Branch Change’ rule is strict, so ensure you are happy with your allotted branch before joining.”
