Status for 2026:

NIT Meghalaya has ceased operations at its temporary Shillong campus. All academic activities have moved to the Permanent Campus in Cherrapunji (Sohra).

  • The Campus: Set amidst the misty hills of Sohra, the campus is being developed as a “Center of Excellence” with modern infrastructure.
  • Connectivity:
    • Road: ~50 km from Shillong (Capital).
    • Rail: ~147 km from Guwahati Railway Station.
    • Air: Flights available from Shillong (Umroi) and Guwahati Airports. Note: The commute from Guwahati to Cherrapunji is long (4-5 hours), so plan accordingly.

✅ GOOD NEWS: Branch Change is Allowed

Policy Status for 2026:

NIT Meghalaya ALLOWS branch sliding after the 1st Year.

  • Criteria:
    1. CGPA ≥ 8.00 at the end of the 2nd Semester.
    2. No backlogs allowed.
    3. Subject to seat availability (Max 10% increase in branch strength).
  • Strategy: An 8.0 CGPA is achievable compared to the 9.0+ required at other NITs. This makes joining a lower branch like Civil a calculated risk worth taking.

Admission is strictly via JoSAA/CSAB based on JEE Main ranks. The institute keeps the batch size small to ensure quality attention.
